Let's Play - George Kirk, A Retrospective

Showcasing works from one of Maryborough's most respected and well loved artist. Displaying George’s unique and quirky way of seeing the world.

This exhibition showcases the remaining works from the George Kirk private collection. George (1921-2021) was a prolific artist across his 99 years on the planet. He was never a ‘struggling artist’, but a hard-working cattleman and joyful, inquisitive art maker. George was inspired by concepts of freedom and externalising inner emotion. His influences were wide and varied but primarily he was a self-taught diligent student of colour and form from some of the world’s greats such as Miro, Matisse, Picasso, the Boyd’s, John Rigby and Brett Whitely. He produced many large canvases, small works on canvas and paper; and computer generated ‘Mouse Painting’ of which this is a display of those he retained in his private collection and some of his family favourites. 

The opening of George Kirks Retrospective was held on Friday 11 March, 2022.
