In this special Hervey Bay Whale Festival event, presented by Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, hear about the cultural significance of relationships between Indigenous peoples and sea-kin.

Hear from Dr Jodi Edwards (VC Indigenous Senior Research Fellow with the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security) alongside ecologist Dr Chels Marshall and underwater cinematographer Natalia Baechtold.

They will share their ongoing research into the symbiotic relationships between Aboriginal people and Sea-Kin including migratory whales, dolphins, sharks, and other keystone species, with a focus on reawakening cultural practices and sharing traditional knowledge.

This innovative research weaves together science, song, dance, language, and story sharing, connecting land, sea, and sky with women’s cultural and environmental practices.

This discussion will include a screening of the short documentary Unbroken Whispers – the ripples connecting Sea Kin.
