Explore the world of textured painting by joining artist Jamie Congdon in transforming a flat surface into a captivating piece of art.

As part of Jamie's exhibition 'On a Limb', Jamie will deliver a 3 hour workshop using various techniques to create depth and visual interest. 

Using supplied materials participants will experiment on a small canvas with techniques demonstrated. 

The workshop will include the following;

  • Brief overview of textured painting and its possibilities
  • Examples of textured artwork by famous artists
  • Exploring Texture Techniques (60 minutes);
    • Demonstration by the instructor on creating different textures using various mediums and tools
    • Applying modelling paste with palette knives for a rough, impasto effect
    • Mixing sand with paint for a gritty texture
    • Using stencils and textured mediums for geometric or patterned effects
    • Creating textures with household objects like crumpled paper or sponges
    • Highlighting textures with spray bottles and splattering techniques
  • Building Your Textured Artwork (90 minutes);
    • Participants choose a theme or subject for their medium-sized canvas (e.g., landscape, abstract, floral)
    • Guided through the process of incorporating textures into their chosen theme

Participants will leave the workshop with the following;

  • Two completed textured paintings
  • A newfound appreciation for the use of texture in creating art
  • Confidence in exploring various textured mediums and tools
  • A take-home handout with key techniques and resources for further exploration

Participants are required to bring their own lunch and an image they would like to paint as reference.

Workshop Cancellation Policy

  • Gatakers Artspace cannot accept responsibility for any changes in personal circumstances. Missed workshops or change of mind are at your own expense.
  • If a participant chooses to cancel their confirmed registration, or cannot or does not attend the workshop, the following will apply:
  • The registered participant may invite another person to substitute their place in the workshop (in which they are registered) at any time at no charge;
  • If notice is received 2 or less days from the scheduled starting date, a refund will not be offered.
  • If a workshop is cancelled by Gatakers Artspace a full refund or a reschedule will be provided. Gatakers Artspace will endeavour to advise participants of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to workshop.
