Join textile artist Urshula Stehle to discover the world of weaving on a multi shaft loom.

Learn how to warp, dress the loom and weave.  This two-day workshop will cover the very basics of weaving and what weaving is and what is involved.

This workshop is being held as part of the Hervey Bay Spinners, Weavers and Fibre Artists exhibition, 

When:  Saturday 10 August  AND Sunday 11August

Time:  9am to 4pm both days - 12noon lunch

Maximum number:  8

Cost:  $80 (must attend both days)

Location:  Gatakers Creative Space, 311 Kent Street Maryborough

Materials required:

  • For your first piece of weaving, we are going to use a 4 ply cotton. Available at Spotlight or other sewing shops (sometimes Dollar shops have it). You need 2 colours of 4 ply cotton, 2 balls each.
  • measuring tape
  • pins
  • scissors.
  • squared paper or graph paper (2mm square)
  • note book and pencil
  • Equipment
    • Warping board
    • Multi shaft table loom 4 shafts, functional (rigid heddle loom not suitable)
    • Reed 8 or 10dpi
    • Raddle
    • Weaving stick or boatshuttle
    • However, if you haven't got a loom, but you would like to try weaving for  the first time, there are 3 looms available to hire for the two days.

Workshop Cancellation Policy

  • Gatakers Artspace cannot accept responsibility for any changes in personal circumstances. Missed workshops or change of mind are at your own expense.
  • If a participant chooses to cancel their confirmed registration, or cannot or does not attend the workshop, the following will apply:
  • The registered participant may invite another person to substitute their place in the workshop (in which they are registered) at any time at no charge;
  • If notice is received 2 or less days from the scheduled starting date, a refund will not be offered.
  • If a workshop is cancelled by Gatakers Artspace a full refund or a reschedule will be provided. Gatakers Artspace will endeavour to advise participants of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to workshop.

The Hervey Bay Spinners, Weavers and Fibre Artists were successful in receiving a RADF Grant to assist with financial costs for the workshop.
